Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach that focuses on understanding and changing behavior. It is widely recognized as a highly effective intervention for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, although it can also be applied to a variety of other populations and settings according to their needs. ABA helps us figure out why people do the things they do. It looks at what happens before and after a behavior occurs to see what might be causing it.

How does ABA Therapy Work?

ABA therapy targets the reduction of challenging behaviors, such as aggression, self-injury, tantrums, and repetitive behaviors, that may interfere with the individual's ability to learn, engage in meaningful activities, and interact with others.

It also helps individuals develop and improve social skills, such as initiating and maintaining conversations, sharing interests, making friends, and understanding social cues. ABA targets the development and improvement of communication skills, including both verbal and non-verbal communication.

The therapy aims to ensure that learned skills generalize across different settings and situations and are maintained over time. The goal is to promote the transfer of skills from therapy sessions to real-life environments, leading to lasting improvements in behavior and functioning.
